Fifty years ago, Cleveland’s Cuyahoga River was so polluted it caught fire. This ignited a national movement to reclaim clean water, pass the Clean Water Act, and establish the U.S. EPA. Today, life has returned to the Cuyahoga River and it is a thriving waterway at the heart of Cleveland’s downtown. But our waters face new threats: agricultural runoff pollution and harmful algal blooms.
