About the Speaker:
Congressman Sean Casten is an American entrepreneur and Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 6th congressional district. The district includes many of Chicago's inner western suburbs, such as Wheaton, Palatine, and Barrington. Sean has an undergraduate degree in molecular biology and biochemistry and masters’ degrees in engineering management and biochemical engineering, which helped inform his career in science and business. Before entering politics, Casten had an extensive career as a clean energy entrepreneur. From 2000 to 2006, he served as the president and CEO of Turbosteam Corporation, a manufacturer of custom-build combined heat and power plants. In 2007, Casten moved to Illinois to co-found Recycled Energy Development (RED), with a mission to profitably reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the recovery of otherwise wasted energy.
